Looking for a marina Strangford Lough? Strangford Yacht Haven is a single pontoon with limited capacity. Berths are allocated on a first come first served basis. Feel free, on passage, to call ahead for berth availability.
Strangford Lough is a Marine Nature Reserve and a favourite destination for cruising yachtsmen.
Visitors to the lough should be aware of the strong tides and overfalls at the entrance as the ebb tide against an onshore wind raises an area of steep and dangerous seas even in calm conditions.
It is recommended that the passage is not attempted by strangers unless they follow the clear directions in the Irish Cruising Club East & North Coast Sailing Directions and are in possession of Admiralty Chart 2156.
Strangford Yacht Haven is a small Visitors Pontoon which can accommodate eight average sized boats but this can be increased by doubling up. There are also three Visitors Moorings on the south side of Swan Island. Because of the size of the small visitor’s facility it is not possible to pre-book berth but if on passage to the lough you should check with the Berthing Master Mob 07561477304
A chartlet of the harbour together with details of depths and tidal information is contained in the ICC Sailing Directions.
The Cuan Inn is a short walk from the pontoon and their staff on our behalf will deal with registration, payment and issue a gate pass valid for the duration of the visit. They also offer showers, dining facilities and laundry services.
Strangford is a picturesque village and has all facilities that a visiting yachtsman may need such as supermarkets, post office, newsagents, chemist, ATM, and butchers. Diesel can be delivered by arrangement with Strangford Fuels.
The National Trust Castleward Estate is a short walk from the village and there is also a regular bus service to the local market town of Downpatrick
